Getting my child to sleep in their own bed

Ideas to help your child sleep in their own bed

Featured video guide

This is such a tricky topic!

I know for my own children, it was quite challenging to get some of them to sleep in their own bed.

Through coaching we have worked with hundreds of families, and have found that there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. Do what works for your family, even if it is different to what others do. In this week's blog post, we'll share some tips that might help figure out what your ideal solution is. Make sure to check out the full video guide in the Tracto app for more tips and how to implement these strategies.

Here are 3 tips to help your child sleep in their own bed:

1. Make sure your child is safe and comfortable in their bed

Sometimes our kids are scared and even just the thought of having to sleep on their own is enough to fill them with anxiety, and even feel sick! If this is the case, we need to help them figure out what it is that they are scared of and then address that.

2. Make it easy for them to stay in their bed

If you have to keep the music and the nightlight on during the night, that’s okay. Do what works for your child. Make sure they are dressed appropriately so that they’re not too hot or cold during the night.

3. Prove to them that you are checking on them during the night

Consider having a sign or something similar to indicate that you check on your child while they are asleep. Perhaps a little whiteboard where you draw a heart shape or a little smiley face every time you check on your child throughout the night. Some kids just want to know that you are still there, looking after them, during the night.
