COVID, and 2020 & 2021 in general, has admittedly introduced a serious dose of change and uncertainty in our daily lives. We have been forced to continuously learn new ways to cope with our changing realities.
As an advocate for families and mental health, we asked various mental health practitioners to share their tips with parents on how to navigate uncertain times and keep their child's mental health a priority.
Tip #5 Help your child understand
We spoke with clinical psychologist, Johannes Schickerling from SA Centre for Mental Health to share his thoughts on the topic.
In this four part series, Johannes highlights how vigilant children are as to how parents react in uncertain situations and provides practical tips on how to model healthy behaviour in these scenarios.
In part 3 (this post) Johannes elaborates on the importance of helping your child understand new concepts and changes introduced by uncertain situations to help them cope.
